Specialty Coffee From Its Original Home |
|
As the conversation flows over matters big and small,
successive rounds of coffee are enjoyed by all – abol is the first cup, bereka the second and tona the final –
the steaming hot beverage is almost a lubricant to a social phenomenon that has
always been uniquely Ethiopian.
But the rest of the world has also discovered the
pleasures of coffee and the specialty segment in particular knows that it’s not
just about drinking it. It’s about
sharing the experience with a fellow coffee lover or understanding that the
beverage in your cup is one of the last links in a chain stretching across
oceans and continents, with the bean that gave rise to it having perhaps been
born in one of the majestic mountain valleys of southern Ethiopia, nurtured by
workers whose lives are utterly intertwined wih
the crop they lovingly grow.
